Buffalo State Alumnus Receives Award From National Weather Service

Jack Kanack, ’83, was honored as the recipient of an award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service.

Jack Kanack, '83Kanack was recognized for his 31 years of service with the Thomas Jefferson Award for outstanding service to the Cooperative Weather Observer program. He has recorded high and low temperatures, rainfall, snowfall and snow depth for the National Weather Service since April 1, 1982, including during the October Storm.

He is active in his community, including as a volunteer at SUNY Buffalo State. Kanack mentors and tutors students in the meteorology program, and helped launch a weekly campus radio show about weather.
