Bengal Tales – Mike Greenberg

Class Year: 1994
Degree: B.A. in Communications

Current Occupation: Teacher & Radio Host

Mike Greenberg, '94

What is one of your fondest memories of Buffalo State?
One of my fond memories was in my audio production class with Prof Tom McCray. We had to "edit" a song using razor blades, tape, etc. DJ Mike Setlock was in my class - we worked together and created an edited version of the extended mix of Alive and Kicking by Simple Minds.

Were you involved with any on-campus organizations as a student?
Hillel, Alpha Omega Zeta

How did graduating from Buffalo State shape your future?
Graduating from Buffalo state prepared me for driving in the massive amounts of snow that we've been getting downstate.
Seriously though - it allowed me to focus on a major while offering many different activities to participate in such as the AOZ co-Educational fraternity, Hillel, and of course WBNY

What accomplishments have you achieved since graduating from Buffalo State?
I've been a teacher for the New York City Department of Education for over 20 years on Staten Island and last June began producing and hosting Kol Yehudim - a radio show on 1640 WJPR, 1640Wjpr.com and TuneIn Radio App - that features a variety of Jewish music from all over the world.

Do you have any advice for current students trying to achieve success after graduation?
Perserverence is key. Always have a Plan B.

I graduated with a degree in communication. The job market with stuff so I started substitute teaching and ended up liking it so much and I went back to school to get a M.A in Elementary Education and 30 additional credits in Administration and Supervision.
Fast forward 22 years - the opportunity arose to develop, produce and host a Jewish music radio program and immediately jumped at the chance. Almost all of the audio production tools that I used at Buff State were outdated - I had to relearn everything.
BUT....my dream of working in radio was finally achieved. You can listen to the show on the archives at http://bit.ly/KolYehudim
