Bengal Tales – Mark Looney

Mark Looney, '85

Class Year 1985
Major B.S. in Industrial Technology

Current Occupation
Director of Quality

What is one of your fondest memories of Buffalo State?
My favorite part of the day was running with the Buffalo State Cross Country team after classes. Many laps around Delaware Park! The team members came from diverse backgrounds that were much different than the technical and engineering discipline. It was the free time with Special Ed. teachers, writers, accountants and other disciplines that allowed me to expand my creative skills and technical ones simultaneously and become a well rounded engineer.

Were you involved with any on-campus organizations as a student?
Yes, I was the President of the Student Chapter of the American Society for Quality, now known as the ASQ, nationally '85.

How did graduating from Buffalo State shape your future?
The friends I made at Buffalo State became lasting friendships to this day both personally and professionally. Many of my BS friends are acting surrogate career coaches for my kids on Facebook. Social media has allowed us to keep in touch with each others life Highs and Lows.

What accomplishments have you achieved since graduating from Buffalo State?
30 year anniversary at United Technologies '16
30 year marriage, three college students / children '17
First publication "A Path Through Ohio" 2014
Two time winner of the Buffalo Marathon '98,'99 Empire State Bronze medalist '85
Master of Science Degree from Rensselaer, Operations Management '95

Do you have any advice for current students trying to achieve success after graduation?
Dream Big, Follow your heart, let the electronics be a tool to success, not a way of life.
