Celebrated Contemporary Artist's New Exhibit Now on Display at Local Museum

Cindy Sherman was on the path to becoming an international art star during her days as a student at SUNY Buffalo State in the mid-1970s. This celebrated contemporary artist has an exhibit, Western New York Collects: Cindy Sherman, on display until July 20, 2014 at the Castellani Art Museum.

Cindy Sherman artworkAs a college student, she created a rubber stamp in the shape of her lips for her “Art Attack” project and stamped it on every sheet on a few rolls of toilet paper, which were eventually installed in Upton Hall on campus. This art project was duplicated for her art exhibition at the Castellani Art Museum as a tribute to Sherman’s student art career.

Photographs and other archival materials from public and private collections in Western New York are also part of the exhibition, including some artworks that have never been available for viewing by the public.
